87% Paid off

I was kind of thinking it was going to be more than 87%. I still have 12% to pay off, that is more than 10%...well duh...but that just seems like a lot still. I need to keep my nose to the grindstone and just finish this off! I returned a dress to Nordstrom and the credit has not appeared on my credit card, so once that does, it will go down a bit more. After the credit posts I plan to just pay the rest of it off in one swoop (It will be less than $100). After I pay my main credit card off, then I will focus on the Amex, which has about 700 dollars. This is a card I gave my mom for emergencies. And while I am happy to do it, I have to admit that part of me resents having to pay these types of bills. Almost half of my original debt was due to my sister and my mother and another 1/4 was/is student loans. I am sure they think that I had paid those debts off long ago, but because I am so inept at dealing with finances I was just stuck in a hole and knew there was nothing they could do to help, so I didn't say anything. While I do feel very free having paid off 87% of the debt a big part of me is still very scared that I will fall back into my old ways. Things I have done to prevent falling back into my old ways. 1. Set up automatic savings transfer of 10% of my income to a savings account. 2. Established a budget. (I have dutifully been filling this out). 3. Vowed to never use credit again. ( I need to cut up the cards? / Hide them?) 4. Even though I currently have enough money in checking/savings to pay off my debt 100%, that would pretty much break me, so I feel it is more sensible to pay it off over the next couple of months, then put myself back in a position of having no money in the bank and then feeling forced to use credit. I sort of want to set a date for being debt free, but I actually don't do so well with deadlines like that, they depress me greatly when I don't meet them. I think I will just stick to being hyper aware of the situation until it is completely paid off. I have a sticky note with the running total on my desk. $855.37 CC debt and $3,373.34 Student Loan. I think it is keeping me focused on my goal. Here is to getting to over 90% in the next couple of days!! Go Me.
